Summer Update

This summer has proven to be different from my past summers. The past two summers I have worked two jobs and kept my cell phone glued to my ear. The lack of an other, significant or otherwise, has given me the opportunity to recover from my cell phone addiction. My ears are happy and recovering just fine :)

The other difference this summer is that I have moved to the land of unemployment. I have applied for probably 15 jobs and have been turned down for each one. It's not that I'm not qualified, or educated, but the last job I called in on was a substitute custodial position, I was informed that there had been over 200 applicants. There are just NOT enough jobs here!

I have come up with a list of things to keep me occupied while I am other-less and job-less. The first thing on my list is.... STUDY!!! I will be taking the GRE in October and a large part of my summer is going to be spent studying for the nasty beast. The test includes rigorous vocabulary testing, math testing, and a writing portion. I have 500 vocabulary words, word roots, antonyms, and basic math formulas to memorize. Fun Fun Fun!!!

Second on my list is to try atleast two new recipes a week. I have LOVED doing research on cooking blogs. My favorites are Annies Eats and My Kitchen Cafe. These women are fantastic!! Take a look for lots of yummy treats! My favorites are Benchiladas, Lemon Dreams, Cheesecake Brownies, and my parents LOVED the Magic in the Middle cookies.

Third on my list is a project I've had on my mind for a while. My mom and I will be making Aprons. The one we are doing is the one on the left. We spent hours in JoAnn's and picked out THE cutest fabrics and matching buttons. My first apron will have this fabric for the main and this for the accent. The backing on it will be the pretty blue color. I am so excited!

In between studying and sewing and cooking, Mom and I are working on making the outside of the house presentable. We will have 6 yards of dirt delivered to fill our newly dug gardens and all our empty pots! That will keep us tan and our backs tired!

My last plan also includes my Momma. We're pretty much buddies all the time now :) Our plan, after our aprons that is, is to design our own jewelry and make it ourselves. There is the coolest bead shop just a few miles from our house. We sure have a lot of work ahead of us!
